the mothership conection
British-Trinidadian artist Zak Ové's Afrofuturist sculpture is like an exquisite corpse of the most radiant kind, pulling from Sierra Leonean Mende mask traditions, Haitian Vevé symbolism, and the neon lights of American consumerism. "The Mothership Connection" (2021), standing at a towering 30 feet (~9.1 meters) tall, landed in Manhattan's Meatpacking District last week to mark the city's 400th birthday.
